The pandemic that started over two years ago is starting to dwindle but people should not be careless. The virus is still out there.
This pandemic has caused so much stress to everyone. Many people lost their jobs. Many businesses closed down. Millions of people have died. Many have been forced to change the way to live and adapt to a world where social distancing has become the norm. On the other hand, our children have also been affected. Children had to study online in their homes and are were not allowed to play outside. But this is not the time to relax. Now that things are slowly creeping back to normal, it’s important to not forget that there is still a virus and you or your children can still get sick even if you are vaccinated. You still need to protect your children.
What Are the Ways To Protect Your Children?
Make Them Understand The Situation
Never think of your children as “just a kid”. Children are smart enough to understand the things happening around them. Make them understand why they still need to be careful when going outside. We’ve been at it for over 2 years and if you’ve been careful and haven’t been hit by COVID-19 then good for you. Make your children understand that the virus is still out there and they can still get sick.
Wear a Mask and Observe Social Distancing
Wearing a mask and social distancing are still the best means of protecting yourself and your children from the virus. If you have to go outside with your children, make sure they wear a mask and they wear it properly. I’ve seen too many children not wearing their masks properly while playing outside. Wearing a mask is not a political statement.
Eating Healthy Food
Eating healthy food will boost your immune system. A strong immune system is one of your child’s best defenses, not just against COVID-19, but against any virus. Ditch the fast-food options. Cook a balanced meal with meat, fruits and vegetables. If you are strapped for time and cannot cook home-cooked meals, there are services that deliver healthy planned meals. Or just make sure you order something healthy and not something loaded with too much cholesterol and sugar.
Exercise Regularly
The COVID-19 situation in most countries is not so dire anymore. You can go for runs or walks with your children. Let them go out to get some sun and exercise a bit. Doing physical activities is important to build strong strong muscles and bones. Apart from having a healthy diet, make physical activities a daily family routine. Exercising together is a fun way to bond with the family. Your toughest competitions are the TV and gadgets. Make your kids feel excited about exercising by making it a family activity or by going out for treats afterward.
Get Your Children Vaccinated
Don’t be afraid of vaccinating your children. Vaccines will not cause autism, will not alter your DNA, and do not contain microchips that will track you. These are all myths. We’re all already being tracked and that’s happening on our phones so there’s really no need to implant microchips. What we do know for sure is that vaccines work. Vaccines will help protect your kids against COVID-19. Experts from John Hopkins Medicine encourage parents to get their children vaccinated before it is too late.
Some children who got infected by COVID-19 could experience severe lung infections which require hospitalization. Children can get other complications that can cause death. And we don’t even know yet the scale of long-term complications COVID-19 can bring about. We’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg but some long-term effects of COVID-19 include breathing problems, heart problems, and kidney problems.
When a child gets COVID-19, they will be put in isolation wards which means you won’t be allowed to see them. Imagine the trauma this will bring to the young ones. if you think about it, prevention is really better than a cure.
Parents, remember. You can prevent COVID-19 from affecting your child. Just follow all the tips above and if you’re careful, you won’t have to worry about your children getting sick.
